New transmission line secures Nurmijärvi’s growing electricity demand
Nurmijärven Sähköverkko and the transmission system operator Fingrid are building a new 110 kilovolt transmission line between Nurmijärvi and Lautala.
The 11-kilometre-long line will enable the development of the electricity network and the connection of new projects planned for the area. Construction work will begin in the autumn with fieldwork and will continue until 2027.
The new transmission line is a key part of the long-term plan for the high-voltage network. It will replace the line between Mutaanmäki and Nurmijärvi, which has reached the end of its service life, and which currently restricts the transverse transmission of electricity.
More power transmission capacity for the growing Nurmijärvi
The increasing need for electricity transmission requires that Nurmijärven Sähköverkko is connected to the main grid with its own transmission line. With the solution, the capacity of the distribution area can be increased, especially to meet the needs of customers in the Rajamäki area.
– “The new transmission line will enable the connection of both large production sites and Kesko’s logistics centre, which will be completed in the 2030s, to the grid. It also enables an increase in other electricity consumption,” says Network Director Osmo Karvonen.
All in all, the project is valuable for the entire company and the municipality.

Cost savings through joint construction
The transmission line will be built with shared poles, in which case one of the circuits will belong to Nurmijärven Sähköverkko and the other to Fingrid. Joint construction reduces costs and reduces land use challenges. The total value of the project is approximately EUR 5.2 million, of which Nurmijärven Sähköverkko’s share is about half.
Transmission line project in brief
- Length 11 kilometres.
- The total value of the project is approximately EUR 5.2 million.
- The project will be carried out in cooperation with the transmission system operator Fingrid.
- It will replace the current line between Mutaanmäki and Nurmijärvi and enable both the development of the electricity network and the increase of electricity consumption capacity in the area.
- Construction work will begin in autumn 2025 with field work and continue until 2027.
